Depop's fee structure after the 2024 change

In 2024 Depop removed its 10% seller commission for UK and US sellers. What remains is payment processing through Depop Payments (Stripe) at 3.3% + $0.45 in the US, charged on the total the buyer pays — item, shipping and any applicable tax. Sellers outside the UK, US and Australia still pay a 10% selling fee.

Cheapest headline in resale, with two catches

On a $50 item with $5 shipping, Depop costs about $2.27 — against $10 on Poshmark and $5.50 on Mercari. That is not a rounding difference; it is the difference between a viable low-margin flip and a losing one. But two things erode the advantage.

First, legacy listings. Listings created before July 2024 and never edited still carry the old 10% commission. A tiny edit — change one word in the description and save — moves them to the 0% structure. Sellers who never noticed are still paying commission on their entire back catalogue.

Second, boosts. A 12% boost fee is larger than the processing fee and larger than most marketplace commissions elsewhere. Because it only charges on the sale, it is easy to forget when modelling margin: the same item sells at a 4% cost organically and a 16% cost when boosted.

The $0.45 is the real tax on cheap items. On a $5 sale, processing is $0.62 — 12.3% of the transaction. Depop's zero commission makes it the best venue for mid-priced fashion, not for $3 accessories.

Depop Fee Calculator — FAQ

Does Depop charge a selling fee in 2026?

No, for sellers based in the US, UK and Australia. The 10% commission was removed in 2024. Sellers outside those markets still pay 10% of the item price, plus processing, so check your regional schedule if you sell from elsewhere.

What is the Depop payment processing fee?

US sellers pay 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction through Depop Payments, which runs on Stripe. The fee is charged on the item price plus shipping and any applicable tax, not on the item alone.

What is a Depop boosted listing and how much does it cost?

Boosting promotes a listing for extra visibility, and Depop charges 12% of the sale when a boosted item sells (8% historically in some markets). It only applies to sales that come from boosted listings, so treat it as variable ad spend rather than a platform fee.

Why is Depop still taking 10% from some of my sales?

Those are legacy listings created before July 2024 that were never edited. The 10% commission still applies to unedited old listings — make any small change to the listing and save it, and it switches to the zero-commission structure.

Is Depop cheaper than Mercari or Poshmark?

On fees, yes: roughly 3.8% all-in at $100 against Mercari's 10% and Poshmark's 20%. The trade-off is audience — Depop skews young and fashion-focused, so items outside streetwear, vintage and Y2K may sell faster or for more on the other platforms even after the higher fee.
