Depop vs Poshmark: 0% commission against 20%, and the catch
Depop's zero commission for US sellers is the lowest platform cost in resale, and on paper it beats Poshmark by a wide margin. Two things complicate that: Depop's audience is smaller and younger, and listings created before July 2024 still carry a 10% fee.
Zero commission, but not zero fee
Depop stopped charging US sellers a marketplace commission in 2024. What remains is payment processing at 3.3% + $0.45, plus an optional 12% boost fee if you promote a listing. On a $42 item that is $1.84, or 4.4% — against Poshmark's 20%, which is $8.40.
The gap is $6.56 on a single sale, the largest spread of any comparison on this site. That is real money, and it explains why so many resellers have shifted their Depop listings up.
| Platform | Fees | Fee rate | Net per sale | vs best |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Depop | $1.84 | 4.4% | $28.16 | — |
| Poshmark | $8.40 | 20.0% | $21.60 | -$6.56 |
Worked at a $42.00 sale, $12.00 unit cost and $0.00 of shipping you pay, general merchandise. Change any of those and the order can flip — that is what the calculator above is for.
The 10% that still applies
Depop's zero-commission policy applies to listings created or edited after July 2024. Older listings that have never been touched still carry the previous 10% fee. In practice this is easy to fix — open the listing, change anything, save it — but plenty of sellers never do, and they are quietly paying double the processing cost on stale inventory.
The boost fee is the other trap. A 12% boost on top of 3.3% is 15.3%, which is still below Poshmark's 20% but no longer a rout. Boosts work when they sell inventory that would otherwise sit; they lose money when applied to items that sell on their own.
The audience difference is the actual trade
Depop's buyers are predominantly Gen Z, searching for Y2K, vintage and streetwear. Poshmark's audience skews older and broader, with a strong plus-size and workwear segment. A 1990s Harley tee may sell for three times as much on Depop; a size-16 Ann Taylor blazer will sit there forever and sell in a week on Poshmark.
The efficient answer for most resellers is to list on both and let the item decide. Depop costs almost nothing to try — no listing fee, 4.4% on a sale — so cross-listing there is close to free upside. Poshmark costs 20%, so it should carry the items its audience actually wants.
Depop vs Poshmark — FAQ
Does Depop charge sellers a fee in 2026?
Depop charges US sellers no marketplace commission. The only mandatory fee is payment processing at 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction, and an optional 12% boost fee if you promote a listing. Listings created before July 2024 that have never been edited still carry the old 10% commission until you update them.
How much does Poshmark take compared to Depop?
Poshmark takes 20% on sales of $15 or more and a flat $2.95 below that, with processing included. On a $42 sale that is $8.40 against Depop's $1.84 — a difference of $6.56 per sale, the largest gap between any two resale platforms covered on this site.
Which is better for vintage clothing?
Depop, for most vintage. Its audience searches specifically for Y2K, 1990s and streetwear, and the zero-commission structure means a $42 vintage tee nets $40.16 against $33.60 on Poshmark. Poshmark is stronger for contemporary workwear, plus sizes and brands its older audience recognises.
Why do some Depop listings still charge 10%?
Depop applied the zero-commission policy to listings created or edited after July 2024. Older listings that have never been updated keep the previous fee schedule. Opening the listing, making any edit and saving it moves it to the new terms — worth doing across your whole closet if you have not listed in a while.
Is Depop good for heavy items like coats?
Generally no. Depop buyers pay weight-based shipping, so a heavy coat can carry a $15–$20 label that suppresses conversion. Poshmark sells a flat $7.97 label to the buyer regardless of weight, which makes bulky items easier to move there even after the 20% commission. Compare the final payout on the actual item rather than the commission rate.
